City of Dallas Code Compliance ensures city codes, and ordinances are maintained, so our neighborhood continues to be a clean and safe place to call home. To report a code concern call 311.

Common Code Violations

High Weeds

Weeds or grass more than 12 inches high is a violation the City Code. High weeds may result in a court citation and / or a bill for the City’s mowing service.

Litter

Homeowners or tenants are responsible for keeping their property free of litter (garbage, paper, cardboard, wood, glass, bedding, auto parts, appliances, limbs, etc.

Obstructions Alley / Sidewalk / Street

Homeowners or tenants are responsible for keeping the street, alley, sidewalk, and public grounds clear of obstructions. This includes the trimming of trees, shrubbery, vines that may obstruct any vehicle traveling through an alley.

Signs Public Right of Way

It is a violation of city code to post any signs, notices, posters etc on a utility pole, lamp post, shade tree, public structure, building, right of way or median.

Bulky Trash

It is a violation of city code to place out bulky trash earlier than 7:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to the collection week and must be in place by 7:00 a.m. the Monday of the pickup week. Highland Meadows bulky trash collection is the 3rd Monday week. Violations of our bulky trash ordinance are immediately ticketed.

Substandard Structure

Property owners are required to keep structures in good repair. Peeling paint, leaking roof, electrical problems, holes in walls, floor, and ceiling, and decayed wood are building violations.

Junk Motor Vehicle

Motor vehicles that are inoperative and/or partially dismantled and have expired license tags or safety stickers are considered “junk motor vehicles”. These vehicles are in violation of city code.

Illegal Dumping

The improper disposal of waste at any location other than a permitted landfill or facility is a violation of city code, and state law.

Illegal Outside Storage

It is a violation of city code to place an item or items outside on a lot, in excess of 24 hours, any item that is not customarily used or stored outside.

Light Trespass

It is a violation of city code for bright lights from any property to spill onto your property or inside your home. If the nuisance lighting is from street lights this is also a code violation.

Parking

It is a violation of city code to leave a car parked on a city street for a continuous period of time longer than 24 hours.
